Oshkosh AirVenture is a magical aviation place, the week I spend at Airventure makes me feel good for months / years after the week is over. I think we should all go to Oshkosh every year for Airventure.

I am writing a guide or information page to make your first visit to Airventure even better  - so bear with me, in the mean time if you have questions email at info@upaero.com

My 1st. Guide will be at  "Guide to Camping at EAA AirVenture"  click on the link to take you there.

Since I have just started to take flying lessons and have never flown into Oshkosh, I can only share my experiences on getting to Airventure by vehicle. In 2000 to 2003, I stayed in hotels, in 2004 and 2005 I camped on site. I missed 2006 as I chose to go to the Reno Air Races this year.

Why go to Airventure? Simply the is one of the greatest aviation events in the world, after 5 trips I have not seen it all, there are exhibits, speakers, forums, static displays, air displays, air shows, and entertainment, Airventure truly is Mecca for aviation enthusiasts.

At Airventure you get close to everything, much different that an airshow,  where is can you meet and greet with Patty Wagstaff, be feet away from warbirds starting up, listen to aviation greats, a few pictures that illustrate the beauty of Airventure in a country setting.

The first thing I learned that Oshkosh is for everyone that loves airplanes, aviation, or just having fun, you do not have to be pilot or aircraft homebuilder to attend so start dreaming about going this summer! At Airventure, I see young people, seniors, families, couples, and singles.

EAA has a wonderful web site on Airventure so visit that site too!

Should you join the EAA, yes and no, the basic membership fee is $40.00US, with that you get a monthly magazine and being a member gets you a discount on Airventure admission. I joined in the winter because I was positive I was going and wanted to support EAA and it was thing I could do ahead of time. You can also buy your EAA membership at the ticket building, buying the EAA membership and tickets are computerized so the process goes by very quickly.

If your are joining EAA - you can use my  EAA # 670230 as your referring member if there is a spot on the form for a referring member, I got a great travel mug one year as a gift because folks used my #.

How long should go for. I would go for a minimum of three days, this give you a good overview of what to see and you may get a rain day on one of those days. I now go for a week and have yet to see, feel and hear everything at Airventure after five visits.

When to arrive - since I am camping on site and want a fair spot for my camper and staying for the week, I arrive on Saturday or Sunday and Airventure starts on Monday. I feel the event gets better as the week goes on. I'm an early bird type of person so I arrive early.
